Charitable Holiday Gift Guide for Kids

What do you get a kid who has everything? Another toy in their box is likely destined for a short life before being stowed away never to see the light of day again. This short life of material things is unfortunately pervasive during Christmastime.

Whether we like it or not, gift giving has become a central component of the season and many children wait all year round in anticipation of what Santa Clause has to bring them.  I hope this Charitable Gift Guide (Kid Version) introduces you to some really great gift ideas that have a longer life span and more meaningful significance than just any other toy.

This guide features companies whose backbone is social entrepreneurship. I encourage you all to support these businesses and what they stand for!

  1. Books for Better World Books
    • This website is AMAZING. It’s basically an online used bookstore that offers a wide selection of titles and FREE SHIPPING ON ALL U.S. ORDERS!! On top of this, BWB’s  book for book program works to spread global literacy by donating a book for each time one is purchased through the site.
  2. Everything Happy Blankies
    • This beautiful company was started by  a young boy who saw an opportunity to make a difference through the power of snuggling :). Everything Happy sells blankies in three sizes, geared towards three different age groups: Mini (Newborn-2 y. old), Classic (2-5 y. old), and Luxe (5-10+ y. old).  For every blanket purchased, one is donated to a child in need! The blankets come in multiple prints and designs and are customize-able with embroidered names.
  3. Kindness Dolls
    • This company promotes kindness and compassion by presenting it in a cute and lovable way. The Doll Kind is a plush doll that comes with ten “Compassion Coins”. Kiddos can give out these tokens of kindness when they observe an act of generosity that deserves to be recognized and commended. The coins are meant to make kiddos more perceptive to kindness and enthusiastic to spread it! With every doll purchased, The Doll Kind donates a doll to an underprivileged child across the U.S. and the world.
  4.  UNICEF Power Kids Activity Tracker
    • The 12 year old in me wants one of these SO BADLY. Honestly, 19 year old me does too! UNICEF has made these kid-friendly activity trackers (aka “Fitbit”) with a powerful message. Not only does gifting this to a child incentivize them to get out and be active, but it also reinforces their own ability to make a difference in this world! The more steps logged on the watch, UNICEF unlocks additional funding for their initiatives to eradicate childhood hunger! On top of this, the watch comes with an app that encourages kids to virtually explore different countries and cultures, fostering appreciation for diversity.

If you guys know of any other charitable minded businesses that sell kid-friendly toys/products, please leave them in the comment section!! I would love to expand on this list and support more and more of these awesome companies.
