Much of what we do in life is reliant on the presence of money.

 

This unfortunate reality hits most young adults the hardest when they go off to college. At this point in time, most young people realize that they have to actually pay for things on their own- and it’s a hard reality!

 

This harsh reality may cause you to look at different ways to make and save money…..

  • Shop for your clothes at thrift stores!
      • Thrift shopping is not only so FUN, but also great for the environment and your wallet!
      • My FAVORITE thrift store is actually online! You don’t even have to worry about spending on an Uber to get there!

  • Sell your clothes at thrift stores!
    • My favorite platforms to sell my clothes on are Poshmark and Relovv! 
  •  Budget!
    • Determine how many times you want to eat out a week so you have the budget for that.
    • Whatever money you do save each week, put it away to SAVE!
  •  Take Up a Side Hustle
    • Whether it’s babysitting, looking over college essays, or doing peoples’ makeup…. find a talent of yours that you can make some money off of!
  • Participate in Studies
    • Psychologists and research labs are always looking for subjects for tests. Universities often feature these calls for participants on fliers posted in different buildings. Find some you feel comfortable doing and make some quick cash!
  •  Do Your Eyebrows Yourself!
    • This is one I’ve begrudgingly accepted…. because getting my eyebrows threaded near my school cost a whopping 2x the amount it does back home!
      • I use this tweezer–> and it’s the best one I’ve come across!
  •  Utilize Services Offered by Your School
    • Universities have a TON of resources (either free or discounted) for their students.
  •  Buy in Bulk at Grocery Stores!
  •  Don’t Use Plastic!
    • Looking past the point that plastic is super damaging to the environment, it also is costly to spend on something that you can only use once!
    • Get a reusable water bottle and some reusable straws! Here are my favorite eco friendly ones that are budget friendly, too!
  •  Buy Your Textbooks at Better World Books!

  •  Use Public Transport
    • Uber-ing is great and ‘easy’, but if you have access to public transport, take it! It is better for the environment and your wallet.
  • Get a Coffee Maker!
    • Everyone knows that dishing out  $5 for a cup of coffee can add up quickly and dangerously.
    • Invest in a cheap (but effective) coffee maker like this one!

  • Use Unidays!
    • This site offers student discounts from SO many brands- so helpful!
    • Check out other super helpful college websites here!
  •  Unsubscribe from email lists!
    • Do you REALLY need PacSun emailing you with their weekly online deals? Does it benefit your wallet? If you’re shaking your head, unsubscribe from stores’/brands’ email lists!
  •  Delete the Amazon App from your phone!
    • Say whaaattt? I know, I know, this one is hard to do… but deleting the Amazon app from your phone will decrease the conveniency of compulsively shopping on the app. Promise- it works!
  • Share clothes with your friends!
    • A great way to expand your wardrobe without spending a penny is by sharing clothes with your girlfriends! Just make sure you take great care of your friends’ clothes and return them promptly!
  •  Stay on the lookout for scholarships!
    • There are so many great scholarships out there for college students. A few scholarships here and there add up! Use websites like Chegg and Niche to aid you in your search.
  • Limit eating out!
    • Although the convenience and taste of eating out is tempting, dishing out money for food everyday is expensive! Utilize your meal plan… and if you’re tired of the same food, there are some great recipes you can even make in your dorm room!
  • Use discount codes!
    • There are a ton of different discount codes that many bloggers promote for brands or products they love and support! Check out some of my favorite discount codes on my Resource Page!
