Happy Plastic Free July!
Plastic Free July is a movement dedicated to raising awareness of the harmful effects that single use plastic has on the environment.
For the duration of the month, participants are encouraged to give up single use plastics (grocery bags, water bottles, cutlery, etc.) and replace them with more sustainable alternatives.

Why Plastic Free?
You may be wondering just how pervasive plastic consumption is and what makes it so bad for the environment. Let’s throw down some facts!
- Only around 9% of plastic waste ends up being recycled. (The Economist)
- Plastic pretty much never decomposes entirely… at most, it breaks down into microplastics which are easily ingested and carried throughout the food stream.
- About 20,000 water bottles are bought every second, worldwide.
- Americans use 500 million plastic drinking straws per day.
- By 2050, research shows that the ocean will contain more plastic (in weight) than fish.
- Each year, more than eight million metric tonnes of plastic end up in oceans.
