If you’re bored and looking for things to do, let this list guide you in pursuit of some eco-friendly activities for quarantine!
Eco-Friendly Activities
Start a Compost Pile
A compost pile or bin is super easy to start and is a great way to turn natural food waste into a helpful tool for your garden or plants!
A full length video on how to compost is coming to my YouTube soon!
Plant Some Veggies!
So now that you’ve got your compost sitting and culminating into some super nutrient-dense soil, let’s put it to use!
Crises like this show us the importance of food self-reliance. Our dependence on the convoluted and lengthy supply-chains involved in the agricultural industry can sometimes be challenged during times like these.
Binge-Watch Environmental Documentaries
We know everybody is currently OBSESSING over Tiger King… let’s get that same support going for Cowspiracy or Finding Coral!

Repurpose Household Items
Spring cleaning season coinciding with quarantine time = HUGE cleaning/re-organization opportunities.
If you are changing up your room or your house, try to make some innovative decorations repurposing items you have laying around!
Here is a list of blog posts that I love with DIY instructions on how to repurpose old items into beautiful decorative pieces:
Join an Online Climate Protest
Craving to get up off of your couch and gather in activism?! Though now is not the time to stage a protest through the streets, you can certainly perform great acts of activism from home.
The website and movement 350.org, founded by Bill McKibben, provides great ways to participate in climate activism while stuck at home. Check out their guide and sign up for their emails!
The organization We Don’t Have Time is moving their conference ONLINE, and will be held April 20th-25th.
With Earth Day coming up late this month, there are tons of environmental movements happening online. Stay in the loop through Twitter or Instagram, where I will be updating you all!

Go Outside and Collect Trash

This is a great way to get some fresh outdoor air while also making a tangible difference.
Learn How to Make a Pantry Staple at Home
An underrated zero-waste/low-waste “hack” is making packaged products you typically buy from the store at home.
Some of my pantry staples include kombucha and coconut yogurt, so learning to make both these things at home would decrease the overall waste that I generate!
An at home kombucha making tutorial is coming to my YouTube channel next week! Subscribe to stay updated!
Teach Your Loved Ones About Climate Change
We all have that one uncle who shakes his head at the mention of climate change, claiming it’s a “liberal hoax” and a bunch of baloney.
These conversations are difficult to navigate and oftentimes incredibly frustrating.
Luckily for you, I’ve got a new FREE GUIDE on How to Teach Climate Change 101 coming out NEXT THURSDAY!
If you want to be put on the email list to get this online packet for FREE, sign up here!
Create Your Own Low-Waste Swaps
Something I’m working on is making reusable cotton wipes I can use for applying toner to my face!
You can also use old t-shirts or scraps to make scrunchies, masks, and a variety of other useful items. Below are some tutorials you can reference!
Transition to Veganism/ Plant-Based Diet
If you now have the opportunity to cook from home and prepare your own meals, it might be a great time to try out veganism!
For guidance and ideas on how to transition, check out this article on How to Go Vegan!
