Note: I am using the translations provided by Yusuf Ali in this post.
*This is in no way “treatment” or a solution for clinical anxiety, which should only be treated by a licensed psychiatrist and therapist. These verses are to placate regular anxiety that all humans feel on a day to day basis. I in no way mean to insinuate that faith is a cure for mental illness, in fact, I believe that that mindset is dangerous. Check this post to see why faith is not a cure for mental illness.
7 Quran Verses for Anxiety
“On no soul do We place a burden greater than it can bear” – 23:62
You are stronger than any trial or tribulation you face. More importantly, your God is stronger than any tribulation you face. As this verse affirms, you can conquer any hardship you face in life.
“They plot and plan, and Allah too plans; but the best of planners is Allah” – 8:30
Perhaps you’re anxious about your future. What if things don’t turn out like planned? What if you end up failing?
This verse affirms that regardless of what WE plan, Allah’s plans are superior. What is best for us has already been planned for by our Creator. Trust that His plans are greater than ours.
“….be sure that Allah is your Protector – the best to protect and the best to help” – 8:40
We’ve got the BEST protector and helper on OUR side! We trust the pilot of a flight- why would we not trust the Creator of the universe?
“Allah is the Protector of those who have faith: from the depths of darkness He will lead them forth into light” – 2:257
Ever feel anxious about your journey ahead? Worried that you’re walking without knowing where to go? Allah is your guide! He leads from the darkness into the light.
“… and wheresoever ye are, Turn your face thither: that there be no ground of dispute against you among the people, except those of them that are bent on wickedness; so fear them not, but fear Me; and that I may complete My favours on you, and ye May (consent to) be guided..” -2:150
Our fear and love for Allah should be greater than our fear for anything else, as God is the One who holds the most power. Don’t let your fear of earthly things impede your pursuit of faith.
“No reason have we why we should not put our trust on Allah. Indeed He Has guided us to the Ways we (follow). We shall certainly bear with patience all the hurt you may cause us. For those who put their trust should put their trust on Allah” -14:12
God has guided you thus far in your life. Amidst trials and tribulations, He is always there.
“Nor does any one know what it is that he will earn on the morrow: Nor does any one know in what land he is to die. Verily with Allah is full knowledge and He is acquainted (with all things)” -31:34
We don’t know what’s to come. Only God knows…. so what is the point getting worked up about the future? Whatever happens is planned for. Remind yourself that we know nothing about the future- it all rests in God’s Hands.
